Exciting Announcements from Nintendo’s 40th Anniversary Direct

Nintendo recently concluded its much-anticipated 40th Anniversary Direct for The Legend of Zelda, unveiling a wealth of information surrounding the beloved franchise. The presentation, lasting nearly 30 minutes, featured an extensive trailer for the remake of the classic title Ocarina of Time, alongside a special edition console, a limited edition controller, amiibo figures of Zelda and Link, toy collaborations, and even a series of concerts set to take place in various cities around the globe.

Ocarina of Time Remake Trailer Unveiled

One of the standout moments was the confirmation that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake will debut exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026. The game will be available in a physical format, with select editions featuring a uniquely designed cover boasting a textured metallic finish.

During the presentation, Nintendo executives elaborated on their choice of a semi-realistic aesthetic, which they believe strikes a balance between nostalgia and cutting-edge graphics. The initial trailer showcased familiar scenes from the classic game, although it remains to be seen how the controls and gameplay will differ from the original 1998 release on the Nintendo 64.

Commemorative Nintendo Switch 2 Launching Soon

In celebration of the 40th anniversary, a special edition of the Nintendo Switch 2 will be available from October 29, 2026. While this console does not feature any technical upgrades, it showcases the iconic gold and green colours of the franchise, complete with triangular symbols inspired by the Triforce and a polished powder finish on the chassis. The accompanying dock will also display the series’ emblem. Pricing details have yet to be revealed.

Exclusive Controller, Case, and Amiibo Figures

To complement the special console, Nintendo will also release a Pro Controller and a protective case for the Nintendo Switch 2, both of which exhibit the same visual design influenced by The Legend of Zelda. These accessories are set to launch on the same day as the console.

Additionally, Nintendo has announced the release of two amiibo figures featuring young versions of Link and Zelda. These collectible figures will unlock a unique mask in the Ocarina of Time Remake, allowing the protagonist to don the visage of his 1998 counterpart.

Interactive App and Concert Tour on the Horizon

In line with previous entries in the franchise, this new Zelda title will be accompanied by a mini-app for smartphones. Functioning similarly to past offerings, the app, titled Zelda Notes, will be integrated within the broader Nintendo Switch application. It will serve as a personal adventure guide, tracking quests, providing statistics, displaying maps, and offering hints related to the storyline.

Lastly, Nintendo has announced an upcoming world tour set to showcase the franchise’s iconic soundtrack throughout 2027. Currently, eight concert dates have been confirmed, with five taking place in Japan. More cities and dates are expected to be announced in due course, promising an exciting experience for fans of the series.
