Corrections Policy

Last updated: 3 July 2026

Manchester Courier is committed to correcting significant factual errors fairly, clearly and promptly.

Requesting a correction

If you believe that an article contains an error, please contact:

editor [at] manchestercourier [dot] co [dot] uk

Please use “Correction Request” as the subject line and provide:

  • The headline and web address of the article.
  • A clear description of the alleged error.
  • The information you believe to be correct.
  • Relevant documents, links or other supporting evidence.
  • Your name and relationship to the subject, where relevant.

Clear and specific requests can normally be assessed more efficiently than general objections to an article.

How requests are assessed

The editorial team will consider:

  • Whether the disputed statement is factual or a matter of opinion.
  • The reliability of the available evidence.
  • Whether the alleged error is material to the article.
  • Whether the information was accurate at the time of publication.
  • Whether a clarification, correction, update or other action is appropriate.

Submitting a request does not automatically mean that the article is inaccurate or that it will be amended.

Types of amendment

Depending on the circumstances, Manchester Courier may:

  • Correct a factual error within the article.
  • Add a clarification or relevant context.
  • Update an article to reflect later developments.
  • Add an editorial note explaining a substantial change.
  • Correct a headline, caption, date, name or link.
  • Remove material where there is a compelling legal, safety or ethical reason.

Minor spelling, grammar, formatting or typographical changes may be made without an editorial note where they do not alter the meaning of the article.

Substantial factual corrections should normally be identified transparently within the article or in an accompanying correction note.

Updates are not necessarily corrections

News stories may be updated as further information becomes available. An update does not necessarily mean that the original report was inaccurate.

Where appropriate, the publication date or update date may be changed to help readers understand the article’s chronology.

Article removal

Manchester Courier does not normally remove accurate articles solely because they have become outdated, inconvenient or unfavourable.

Requests for removal or de-indexing will be considered individually, taking account of accuracy, privacy, safety, legal obligations, freedom of expression, the public interest and the importance of maintaining the historical record.

Response time

We aim to acknowledge a properly submitted correction request within seven working days and to provide a substantive response within 20 working days.

Complex matters may take longer, particularly where documents must be examined or several parties must be contacted. If additional time is required, we will aim to inform the person making the request.

Disagreement with a decision

If you remain dissatisfied after receiving a response, you may submit a formal complaint under our Complaints Policy.

Correction requests made abusively, repeatedly without new evidence or for the purpose of harassment may be closed without further correspondence.
