The recent appointment of the Reverend Canon Dr Timothy Michael Lomax to the Suffragan See of Warwick has received the royal seal of approval, following the recommendation of the former Prime Minister. This decision marks a significant transition within the Diocese of Coventry, succeeding the Right Reverend John Stroyan, who retired after a distinguished tenure.
A Journey of Academic and Spiritual Formation
Dr Lomax’s educational background is notable, having studied at Nottingham University and Asbury Theological Seminary in Kentucky. His theological training was further enriched at Ridley Hall, Cambridge, where he prepared for a life dedicated to ministry. His early service included a curacy at St Philip Penn Fields in Wolverhampton, part of the Diocese of Lichfield, where he began to build his pastoral foundation. He was ordained as a priest in 2008.
In 2010, he took on the role of Vicar at Christ Church in Bayston Hill, Shrewsbury, where he further honed his leadership skills and deepened his community engagement. His commitment to mission work became more pronounced in 2016 when he was appointed as Director of Mission in the Diocese of St Albans. This role allowed him to focus on innovative outreach strategies and community building, reinforcing the church’s role in modern society.
Current Role and Responsibilities
In 2020, Dr Lomax was elevated to his current position as Director of Mission and Ministry, while also serving as Residentiary Canon at St Albans Cathedral. This dual role has enabled him to integrate his vision for mission work with the rich traditions of the cathedral, fostering a dynamic approach to ministry that resonates with both local and wider communities.
Beyond his professional commitments, Dr Lomax enjoys a fulfilling family life. He is married to Kate, and together they have raised three adult children, which adds a personal dimension to his understanding of family and community within his ministry.
