New Bus Fare Initiative Announced

The £2 fare cap will be supported by an additional £400 million in government funding. Notably, this includes a shift in funding for international climate initiatives from grants to loans, allowing for greater investment in domestic transport solutions.
This new scheme will replace the previous £3 fare cap, ensuring that eligible bus fares on participating services do not exceed £2. The reform is especially advantageous for passengers undertaking longer journeys, including those residing in rural and coastal areas where fares can often be disproportionately high.

Earlier this year, an additional investment of over £100 million was allocated to the bus sector, which includes provisions for free bus travel for children aged 5 to 15 on participating services throughout August as part of the Great British Summer Savings Scheme.
