Announcement of Development Consent for the Steeple Renewables Project

Proposed Solar Farm Development in Nottinghamshire

A planning application has been submitted for a significant solar farm project in Nottinghamshire, which aims to generate approximately 450 megawatts (MW) of solar energy, complemented by a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with a capacity of around 150 MW. This initiative is spearheaded by Steeple Solar Farm Limited.

The application was officially presented to the Planning Inspectorate on 14 May 2025 and was subsequently accepted for examination on 11 June 2025. This marks an important step in the development process, signalling the commencement of a thorough review.

Examination Process and Community Involvement

During the examination phase, various stakeholders, including local communities, statutory consultees, and other interested parties, were afforded the chance to provide evidence and express their views to the Examining Authority. This inclusive approach aimed to ensure that all perspectives were considered in the decision-making process.

On 10 July 2026, following a comprehensive examination, recommendations were submitted to the Secretary of State. This application represents the 115th energy project reviewed out of a total of 183, underscoring the Planning Inspectorate’s commitment to adhering to the statutory timelines established under the Planning Act 2008.

Transparency and Accessibility of Information

The Examining Authority diligently considered the opinions of local residents, the local council, and other interested parties during the six-month examination period. This consideration reflects the authority’s commitment to community engagement and transparency in the planning process.

All documentation related to the decision, including the recommendations made to the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, as well as the evidence evaluated by the Examining Authority, is accessible to the public through the project pages of the National Infrastructure Planning website. This ensures that all interested individuals can stay informed about the developments related to this solar farm proposal.
