Prime Minister’s Discussion with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy: Key Insights from 10 October 2026

Prime Minister Affirms Support for Ukraine

In a recent conversation with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine, the Prime Minister expressed recognition of the challenging circumstances faced by the country over the last 24 hours, reaffirming the UK’s unwavering support for Ukraine during this tumultuous period.

The dialogue between the two leaders also centred on the critical need to maintain pressure on Russia. The Prime Minister emphasised that the United Kingdom would persist in its efforts to tighten sanctions against Russia, alongside implementing additional measures aimed at impeding the Russian military operations. This commitment builds upon new designations targeting Russian interests that were announced earlier this week.

Call for Energy Ceasefire

During their discussion, both leaders highlighted the necessity for Russia to agree to an immediate ceasefire concerning energy, which would put an end to its relentless assaults on Ukrainian infrastructure and its aggressive actions against shipping in the Black Sea. Such a ceasefire would not only alleviate the immediate humanitarian crisis but also enable a swift release of energy and food supplies into the global market, addressing broader economic concerns.

The Prime Minister and President Zelenskyy concluded their conversation with an agreement to meet in person in the coming days to further their discussions, reinforcing their commitment to collaborate closely in the face of ongoing challenges.
