Kuwait Invests in British AI-Enhanced Air Defence Systems, Creating 100 New Jobs in the UK

Significant Defence Investment for Kuwait

A substantial contract worth £370 million has been established to bolster Kuwait’s defence capabilities, resulting in the creation of 100 new jobs within the UK. This initiative involves the provision of British-built air defence systems aimed at safeguarding the Gulf state against regional threats.

The agreement is with MARSS Systems Limited, a subsidiary of EOS, which will supply and integrate an advanced air defence solution for Kuwait. This system includes a combination of jammers, radars, and interceptors, all integrated with the NiDAR platform—a sophisticated command and control centre powered by artificial intelligence. The aim is to significantly enhance Kuwait’s ability to detect, deter, and neutralise airborne threats.

Job Creation and Economic Benefits

The contract is poised to expand MARSS’s operations within the UK, with manufacturing predominantly taking place in Bristol. This development exemplifies how investment in defence can lead to meaningful economic growth across various regions, generating skilled job opportunities and positive prospects for communities throughout the UK.

This agreement is part of the UK’s Taskforce Sabre initiative, which unites government and industry efforts to assist Gulf states in rapidly acquiring the necessary defence systems and weaponry. The impetus for this collaboration follows a series of aggressive missile and drone attacks by Iran within the region.

Commitment to Regional Security

Luke Pollard MP, Minister for Defence Readiness and Industry, highlighted the significance of this arrangement, stating, “This deal is a clear demonstration of the UK delivering on its promise to support our regional partners.” He further noted that by equipping Kuwait with cutting-edge British technology, the UK is reinforcing a critical ally’s defences against genuine and escalating threats while simultaneously fostering skilled employment opportunities domestically.

Johannes Pinl, CEO of MARSS, emphasised the complexity of countering drones and aerial threats. He remarked, “It is not about any single system; it is about an intelligent, layered architecture that detects, decides, and defeats within seconds, and MARSS has built exactly that.”

Ongoing Support and Future Developments

Over the course of the next few years, specifically through 2027, MARSS will integrate various sensors and effectors designed to protect Kuwait’s citizens, critical infrastructure, and national assets, all supported by British engineering expertise and the generation of new skilled jobs in the UK.

Previously, the UK has provided Kuwait with the Rapid Sentry, a ground-based air defence missile system, and the RAF’s ORCUS system, which is currently operational in the country, assisting personnel in the early detection of drones and enabling swift, decisive actions.

This latest contract builds upon existing support, further solidifying the UK’s position as a trusted defence partner not only to Kuwait but also to the broader Gulf region.
