Collaborative Statement on Iran: Update from 12th October

International Condemnation of Iran’s Aggressive Actions

A coalition of Foreign Ministers from various nations, including Albania, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States, alongside the High Representative of the European Union, have jointly condemned Iran’s use of violent tactics. These actions encompass lethal plotting, arson, sabotage, cyber-attacks, and a range of hybrid activities directed against their nations and allies.

The United Kingdom’s recent attribution of Iran’s involvement in the incident at RAF Fairford on 27 September has been acknowledged by the coalition. This incident underscores the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps’ (IRGC) ongoing propensity to extend its hostile activities beyond national borders, utilising covert networks and proxy forces to achieve its objectives.

Escalating Threats and Targeted Attacks

This condemnation follows a spate of recent attacks across Europe, which have specifically targeted Jewish communities, Iranian journalists, and American interests. These incidents have been claimed by the group Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiya (HAYI), highlighting the urgency of the situation and the need for a united response.

Any attempt by Iran to threaten, intimidate, harass, or harm individuals within the territories of the allied nations, whether through proxies or other means, is deemed unacceptable. It is imperative that those engaging in hostile activities on behalf of Iran, or any other state, understand that there will be concerted efforts to identify, investigate, disrupt, and prosecute such actions.

Commitment to Sovereignty and International Coordination

The coalition firmly asserts that Iran must recognise the unity of these nations in their commitment to safeguarding their sovereignty. There is a collective resolve to strengthen international coordination, enhance national resilience, protect communities, and ensure accountability for those responsible for these hostile actions.

In an age where threats can manifest in various forms, the emphasis on cooperation and vigilance remains paramount. The coalition’s stance illustrates not only a shared commitment to security but also a broader determination to uphold democratic values and human rights globally.
