Overview of the Solar Power Project
An application has been put forward for a solar photovoltaic array generating station, which will also incorporate a battery energy storage system and the necessary grid connection infrastructure. This ambitious project boasts a maximum generation capacity of 800 megawatts (MW).
This proposal was submitted to the Planning Inspectorate by Elements Green Trent Limited on 27 June 2025 and was subsequently accepted for examination on 22 July 2025. The examination process is a crucial step in assessing the viability and potential impact of such large-scale energy projects.
Examination Process and Community Involvement
During the examination phase, various stakeholders—including the public, statutory consultees, and interested parties—were afforded the opportunity to present their evidence and opinions to the Examining Authority. The examination culminated in a series of recommendations made to the Secretary of State on 28 July 2026.
This application marks the 117th energy project out of a total of 185 that have undergone examination to date. It was completed by the Planning Inspectorate within the statutory timeframe established by the Planning Act of 2008, highlighting the efficiency of the process.
Local communities have been actively engaged throughout this six-month examination period, ensuring that residents, local authorities, and other stakeholders could voice their concerns and insights regarding the proposed project. This level of involvement is vital for fostering transparency and addressing local issues that may arise from large developments.
Recommendations and Public Access to Information
The Examining Authority carefully considered all local opinions and the evidence presented during the examination before making its recommendations to the Secretary of State. The decision, along with the recommendations made and the evidence taken into account, is available to the public on the project pages of the National Infrastructure Planning website.
This significant decision was made by Baroness Curran, acting on behalf of the legal authority of the Energy Secretary. It underscores the government’s commitment to transparency and public engagement in the planning process for major energy projects.
