New Opportunities with the Northern Ireland Food Advisory Committee
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) is currently seeking to recruit five new members to join the Northern Ireland Food Advisory Committee (NIFAC). This committee plays a vital role as an independent advisory body to the FSA, with a specific focus on food and feed issues pertinent to Northern Ireland.
NIFAC is chaired by Anthony Harbinson, who serves as the FSA Board Member for Northern Ireland. The committee’s primary function is to provide informed advice to the Agency, ensuring that the unique challenges and opportunities within Northern Ireland’s food sector are adequately addressed.
Engagement and Insights from Stakeholders
The Committee deliberates on a variety of themes from a distinctly local perspective. By conducting meetings and site visits throughout Northern Ireland, NIFAC actively engages with stakeholders, leveraging their insights to enhance its recommendations and guidance. Over the past year, the committee has tackled numerous pressing topics, including the future of food regulation, the issue of food crime, the influence of scientific research and surveillance on FSA decision-making, as well as concerns related to Lough Neagh.
In expressing enthusiasm for the recruitment drive, Anthony Harbinson stated, “This is an exciting opportunity to join NIFAC. The Committee seeks to provide advice to the FSA on matters related to food and feed, particularly as they relate to Northern Ireland. NIFAC members use their expertise to help advise on policy and to engage with stakeholders across Northern Ireland.”
A Platform for Contributing to Food Policy
Becoming a member of NIFAC allows individuals to engage in discussions surrounding critical issues that impact the food system. Members will have the chance to apply their knowledge and experience to support evidence-based decision-making. This role presents a unique opportunity to collaborate with a diverse assembly of experts, gain insights into emerging challenges and opportunities in food policy, and ensure that the perspectives of Northern Ireland are accurately represented in the FSA’s initiatives.
