Support for the ICC’s Mission
We, the undersigned States Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC), wish to express our steadfast and unwavering support for the independence, impartiality, and integrity of the ICC. Our commitment to the principles enshrined in the Rome Statute remains resolute.
As ardent advocates for the ICC, we deeply regret and strongly oppose the recent announcement regarding the sanctions that the United States intends to impose on the Court. Such measures are concerning and stand in contrast to the collaborative spirit that is essential for the effective functioning of international justice.
Appreciation for the Court’s Resilience
We acknowledge and appreciate the proactive measures taken by the ICC in preparation for the potential sanctions. These efforts are crucial in ensuring that the Court can continue to fulfil its mandate as outlined in the Rome Statute. We wish to reiterate our unwavering support for the Court as it navigates these challenges.
However, it is imperative to highlight that if these sanctions are implemented, they will severely affect the operations of the Court, as well as the dedicated staff and their families who work tirelessly to bring those accused of the gravest international crimes to justice and to support the victims of such atrocities.
Commitment to Dialogue and Collaboration
We stand united in our commitment to the ICC and are determined to engage in constructive and inclusive dialogue with non-States Parties as we prepare for the upcoming Assembly of States Parties scheduled for December 2026. Our collective efforts will focus on supporting the essential work of the Court, upholding the principles of a rules-based international system, and advancing accountability for serious crimes.
In these challenging times, it is crucial that we reinforce our commitment to the ICC’s mission and ensure that it remains a beacon of hope for justice worldwide.
