New Anti-Corruption Report Released for the United Kingdom

On 20 August 2026, GRECO, the anti-corruption entity of the Council of Europe, unveiled its 6th Round Evaluation Report concerning the United Kingdom. This comprehensive report, which spans 72 pages and is available in PDF format, was officially adopted during GRECO’s plenary session held in June 2026.

Focus on Sub-National Integrity Measures

The evaluation primarily examines initiatives aimed at curbing corruption and fostering integrity at the sub-national level. In particular, the assessment spotlighted London, given its status as the capital, alongside Kent, which expressed a willingness to participate and was subsequently selected as the second sub-national authority for this review.

Recognition of Positive Efforts

The report acknowledges the commendable steps taken by the United Kingdom to combat corruption and enhance integrity across both national and sub-national tiers of governance. It highlights noteworthy practices implemented by the Greater London Authority and Kent County Council, showcasing effective strategies in promoting ethical governance.

Recommendations for Future Strengthening

In its findings, GRECO has delineated six key recommendations designed to bolster these ongoing efforts further. These recommendations aim to enhance the existing frameworks and practices surrounding integrity and transparency within governmental operations.

Government’s Commitment to Implementation

In response to the report, Her Majesty’s Government is actively considering the proposed recommendations. A detailed report outlining the measures undertaken to implement these suggestions is expected to be submitted by 31 December 2027, adhering to GRECO’s procedural guidelines.
