The British Embassy is thrilled to announce the launch of the “Ambassador for a Day” programme for 2026, inviting young individuals from Lithuania to apply. This initiative aims to empower youth by providing a unique opportunity to engage with diplomacy and international relations.
Eligibility Criteria for Applicants
This competition welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds, aged between 16 and 19 years, who reside primarily in Lithuania. To qualify, participants must fall within this age range as of 1 December 2026, ensuring that all candidates share a common timeline for eligibility.
How to Participate in the Competition
Participation in the programme is free, requiring only your creativity and enthusiasm. To enter, applicants must produce a concise video, not exceeding 120 seconds, in English. The video should address one of the following themes:
- If you were Ambassador for a Day, what would be your vision for the future?
- How can the UK and Lithuania collaborate over the next 35 years?
Once your video is complete, it should be uploaded to YouTube as an “Unlisted” video. Ensure that it is not set to “Private,” as this will prevent the judges from accessing it. The link to your video must then be shared via the application form.
Essential Guidelines for Video Submission
It is important to adhere to certain guidelines while creating your video:
- Ensure that your submission is original and has not been previously published or entered in other competitions.
- Each individual may submit only one video entry.
- Feel free to use any recording device, be it a smartphone, tablet, or camera; professional quality is not a requirement.
- Consider enlisting the help of friends or family for filming, and aim to shoot in a well-lit environment with clear audio to effectively convey your message.
What the Judges Are Looking For
An independent jury will assess all submissions, focusing on the authenticity and personal touch of each video. They will be looking for entries that communicate ideas clearly and evoke passion and inspiration. Technical quality will not be a deciding factor; the emphasis is on the story you wish to share.
Submission Deadline and Selection Process
All video entries must be submitted by 26 October 2026 at 11:45 PM local time. Unfortunately, late submissions will not be accepted. Selected winners will receive an invitation to the British Embassy, where they will have the chance to:
- Meet the Ambassador and gain insights into the daily workings of a female leader.
- Interact with the British Embassy team and learn about their various roles.
- Experience key diplomatic activities that form the essence of a diplomatic mission.
- Attend meetings and events alongside senior diplomats and officials.
Consent and Travel Arrangements
The British Embassy Vilnius will require written consent from successful applicants, including parental or guardian approval for entrants under 18 years of age. Winners must agree to being photographed and/or filmed during public and online engagements associated with the programme, with the understanding that such materials may be used for promotional purposes while respecting their privacy.
Each winner may bring along one chaperone, such as a parent, teacher, or guardian, for their journey to Vilnius. The British Embassy will cover reasonable travel and accommodation costs for both the winner and their accompanying chaperone.
