Families across the UK can now effortlessly discover more budget-friendly days out and children’s dining options through the newly launched Great British Summer Savings website. This initiative aims to provide families with enjoyable summer experiences despite the ongoing challenges posed by the cost-of-living crisis.
In a bid to alleviate financial pressures, the Chancellor announced a reduction in VAT from 20% to 5% on eligible activities. This reduction applies to family cinema tickets, admissions for both children and adults to amusement parks, as well as meals for children at restaurants, effective from 25 June to 1 September.
A variety of popular restaurants and attractions, including Nando’s, Bill’s, Las Iguanas, ODEON, and The London Eye, have joined the Government’s initiative to pass on these savings to consumers. These establishments are prominently featured on the new website, enabling families to locate them with ease.
Local Discounts Tailored for Families
Residents in Swansea can input their postcode to uncover local discounts at venues such as ASK Italian and escape rooms at TENPIN. Similarly, those in Belfast will find offers at YO! SUSHI and Frankie & Benny’s, while Aberdeen residents can benefit from deals at AirHop Adventure & Trampoline Park and Cineworld. Additionally, families in Scarborough can explore savings at Playdale Farm Park, and Mini Kingdom Soft Play in Yeovil is also included as a local option.
Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves, remarked on the initiative, stating that the tax cuts will allow families to indulge in the small pleasures and memorable outings that define the British summer holidays. She emphasised that the new website simplifies the process of accessing Great British Summer Savings, enabling families to create cherished memories while also benefiting from broader measures aimed at reducing household energy bills and increasing wages.

Families can easily take advantage of these offers by following a few straightforward online steps:

2. Enter your postcode
3. Adjust the distance dial to determine how far you’re willing to travel from home
4. Optionally search by specific types of attractions or dining offers
5. Click the ‘Find offers’ button
6. Review a list of local businesses providing discounts and their locations on the map
Once a family identifies a restaurant or attraction that suits their needs, they can simply book a table or purchase a ticket as they typically would, with the discount automatically applied at checkout.
A Wide Range of Eligible Activities
The website boasts over 1,700 participating businesses, and the Government is actively engaging with additional venues to encourage their inclusion in the Great British Summer Savings initiative. Eligible activities encompass:
– Meals from children’s menus at restaurants for on-site consumption
– Family and children’s tickets for cinemas, theatres, concerts, shows, and exhibitions
– Admission tickets for both children and adults to various attractions, including amusement parks, fairs, museums, zoos, soft play centres, circuses, adventure parks, nature reserves, wildlife parks, and observation points.
The Government is committed to making long-term decisions that will foster a stronger and more stable economy for the future. Initiatives such as a £117 reduction in household energy bills, freezing rail fares and prescription charges, provision of free breakfasts for children, and increases to the national minimum and living wages are all part of a broader strategy. Furthermore, significant investments are being made to develop homegrown clean energy resources, thereby enhancing national resilience against future shocks and lowering bills for families in the years ahead.
