Upcoming Weather Patterns in the UK
In the coming days, southern England is set to experience a rise in temperatures, with predictions indicating peaks of around 27-28°C in certain areas of the southeast this Friday. This warm spell, however, is expected to be short-lived as forecasts indicate a shift towards wetter and windier conditions next week.
Thursday is anticipated to be predominantly dry across much of England and Wales, with temperatures reaching the low 20s Celsius. However, those located in the northwest, particularly in western Scotland and Northern Ireland, should prepare for a cold front that will bring rain by Thursday afternoon. This front is expected to usher in more typical mixed weather conditions over the weekend.
Transition to Average Conditions
Dan Holley, Deputy Chief Forecaster at the Met Office, commented on the warm conditions, stating, “Once early fog patches dissipate in the south, Friday will see exceptionally warm temperatures for late September, especially in the southeast, which is influenced by a high-pressure system from the nearby continent.”
As the weekend approaches, a weakening cold front will gradually move southeast overnight into Saturday, leading to a drop in temperatures that will bring them back closer to seasonal averages. The weekend is expected to present a mix of weather, with much of Saturday remaining fine and dry. However, there is an increasing likelihood of rain or showers on Sunday, particularly in the western regions.
Anticipating Wet and Windy Weather
Looking further ahead to next week, there are growing indications of a period of wet and windy weather expected to arrive on Tuesday and continue into Wednesday. This may lead to potential coastal impacts, particularly in the west and southwest.
Holley added, “While specific details remain uncertain at this stage, a notably deep area of low pressure may move close to the UK during the first half of next week. This could result in wet and windy conditions for many, and when combined with high spring tides, could pose risks to certain coastal areas in the west.”
