Investment Round Marks a New Era for Singular Machines
Singular Machines, a prominent engineering automation firm based in the UK, has successfully concluded a strategic investment round, primarily spearheaded by the UK Innovation and Science Seed Fund, which is managed by Future Planet Capital. This investment round also witnessed the participation of Oxford Science Enterprises, the global engineering giant Arup, and Japan’s Miraisozozo Investments. In conjunction with this financial backing, Singular Machines has secured a new contract with Arup to utilise its innovative coEngen platform.
In the realm of fusion energy, the emphasis lies on executing complex engineering tasks with utmost efficiency and reliability. Singular Machines extends this rigorous approach beyond fusion technology, applying their expertise in engineering automation to a broader array of industrial sectors.
Aligning with National Strategy for Economic Growth
As a spinout of the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), Singular Machines is well-aligned with the UKAEA’s strategic objectives for the period from 2026 to 2030. This strategy aims to transform fusion research into viable commercial ventures, thereby fostering long-term economic and industrial benefits from national investments in research and development.
The spinouts from UKAEA not only create avenues for the advancement of skills and intellectual property but also drive the development of innovative technologies, generating value across diverse sectors. These initiatives play an essential role in bolstering the UK’s economic prosperity by attracting investments, creating highly skilled employment opportunities, and laying the groundwork for future industries.
Strengthening the UK Deep-Tech Ecosystem
Singular Machines’ collaboration with Arup, both through investment and contractual agreements, exemplifies the robust deep-tech pipeline existing within the UK. This partnership underscores the evolution of Singular Machines from a public research entity to a venture-backed enterprise, ultimately forming strategic alliances within the industry.
The company is currently advancing the coEngen platform, an agentic artificial intelligence solution crafted to uphold the traceability, assurance, and professional judgement that are vital to engineering practices. By doing so, coEngen aims to enhance the efficiency of engineers while ensuring that engineering expertise remains central to decision-making processes.
Comprehensive Support from Industry Leaders
In addition to the strategic investments from the aforementioned organisations, Arup is poised to offer technical, commercial, and strategic guidance to Singular Machines. This collaboration will facilitate the shaping and testing of the Singular Machines platform through practical engineering workflows, ensuring that the solution is finely tuned to meet industry needs.
Adrian van Arkel, the Founder and CEO of Singular Machines, remarked on the pivotal role played by UKAEA’s innovation team in launching the company. He noted, “While our beginnings were rooted in fusion, the challenges addressed by coEngen are ubiquitous across the engineering landscape. The complexity of modern projects often exceeds the limits of human coordination. We are creating coEngen to ensure these projects can thrive.”
Promoting a Culture of Innovation
Heather Lewtas, the Interim Chief Development Officer at UKAEA, also expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “The pioneering science and innovation at UKAEA are fast-tracking the development of commercial opportunities within the UK. We are delighted to support Singular Machines in its evolution and in forging valuable industrial partnerships.”
