By December 2027, all police forces across England and Wales will establish dedicated teams focused exclusively on investigating rape and sexual offences, a significant advancement that accelerates the original timeline by a year and a half. These specialised units aim to enhance victim support, ensure thorough investigations, and bring perpetrators to justice.
This initiative was first unveiled in the government’s comprehensive Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy last December, which had initially slated the rollout for completion by the end of the current parliamentary session in summer 2029.
