David Dinsmore Steps Down as Permanent Secretary for Government Communications

David has been appointed to spearhead a significant reform initiative within government communications. His tenure has seen the development of a comprehensive Government Communications strategy, alongside the establishment of a Strategy Unit and the Government Media Unit. These key elements have set the groundwork for the forthcoming phase of implementation.

With the recent transition of Prime Minister and administration, David and the First Secretary of State have mutually decided that this is an opportune moment to pass on the leadership of the programme.

Reflections on a Transformative Period

David Dinsmore, the Permanent Secretary and Director of Communications, shared his sentiments regarding his time in office, stating:

“It has been an enormous privilege to serve at the heart of government at this crucial time for our country. Over the past months, we have fundamentally reshaped the way government approaches communications, establishing a clear strategy and creating the Government Media Unit to make the impact of government highly visible to citizens and stakeholders.”

He emphasised that government communications is now transitioning from strategic design to implementation, expressing confidence in the exceptional civil servants who will continue this important work. David acknowledged the opportunity to work alongside remarkable Permanent Secretaries throughout the government, witnessing tangible change on a daily basis.

He concluded, “I will always be grateful for this opportunity to contribute to the vital modernisation of how government communicates with its citizens, stakeholders, and the wider global audience.”

Dame Antonia Romeo, the Cabinet Secretary, commended David’s efforts during his brief but impactful time in office. She remarked:
