Euan Hutton Announces Departure from Sellafield Ltd
Euan Hutton has informed Sellafield Ltd and the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) of his intention to step down as Chief Executive Officer of Sellafield Ltd in July 2027. Following his departure, he plans to embark on a non-executive career and dedicate more time to his family.
Reflecting on his long tenure, Euan expressed, “I first walked through the gates of Sellafield in October 1991, and I could not have dreamed of the opportunities that this special place has given to me. Leading Sellafield has been the greatest honour and privilege of my professional life.” He emphasised the significance of the team, stating, “What we do is world-leading, but it’s the people that make it happen. I have nothing but admiration and gratitude to each and every one of them who work so hard to deliver our shared mission.”
In his statement, he acknowledged that it was time to transition to the next phase of his life. By making this announcement now, he hopes to allow sufficient time for the selection of the most suitable successor, ensuring a smooth handover process.
Recognition of Euan Hutton’s Contributions
Chris Train, Chair of Sellafield Ltd, remarked on Euan’s substantial contributions to the company over the years, particularly in his recent role as CEO. “On behalf of the Board and Executive team, I would like to thank Euan for his dedication and commitment to our vital work,” he said. Train also expressed appreciation for the time Euan has granted the organisation to identify a suitable successor, which will help maintain stability and ensure the continued safe delivery of the company’s mission.
David Peattie, Chief Executive Officer of the NDA, also acknowledged Hutton’s impact. “The NDA Group and I have been very fortunate to have Euan’s support in such a crucial role. He has had a significant influence at Sellafield Ltd and across the NDA Group. His considerable technical and leadership abilities have been invaluable,” Peattie stated. He wished Euan well in his future endeavours and looked forward to collaborating in the months ahead.

In light of Euan Hutton’s announcement, a formal search process will commence to identify his successor.
