The UK is poised to experience a spell of warm weather over the next few days, with temperatures potentially reaching the mid-20s Celsius in some regions. However, there are also weather alerts to keep an eye on, particularly concerning heavy rain expected on Wednesday and the possibility of strong winds in the far northwest come Thursday.
High pressure is set to dominate much of the UK at the start of the week, ushering in warm conditions and plenty of sunshine for many areas. Today, Monday, will be characterised by dry, warm, and sunny weather across the southern regions of the country, accompanied by light winds. In contrast, the northern and western parts are likely to see an increase in cloud cover, which may bring a few patches of rain. Temperatures are anticipated to reach 24°C in the south and around 22°C in the north.
Monday morning may start off chilly for some, showcasing a stark north-south divide in weather conditions. While southern areas bask in sunny spells, the north will grapple with cloudier skies and occasional rain. However, temperatures are expected to rise steadily throughout the morning, leading to a warmer atmosphere for most by midday.
Upcoming Changes in the Weather Pattern
As we move into Tuesday, a cold front is predicted to sweep gradually southeastward across Scotland and Northern Ireland. This shift will lead to a mix of cloud and brighter intervals across many regions, while rain is expected to arrive in northwest Scotland and Northern Ireland later in the day. The warmest weather is likely to persist in the southeast, where temperatures could climb to 25°C, with the possibility of peaking at 26°C.
According to Tony Wisson, Deputy Chief Forecaster at the Met Office, the weather will become increasingly variable starting Wednesday due to a sequence of weather fronts moving across the UK. There is still some uncertainty regarding the precise trajectory of a frontal system on that day, which could lead to heavy rainfall, particularly affecting eastern and southeastern Scotland, as well as parts of northern and northeastern England.
Preparing for Chilly Nights and Strong Winds
Wisson advised that people should stay informed about the latest forecasts in the coming days, as many southern areas are likely to remain predominantly dry. Wednesday night into Thursday is expected to be particularly chilly, with the potential for localised air frost in certain rural areas, as cooler air filters in from the northwest.
Thursday is forecast to bring extended periods of sunshine for much of England and Wales; however, attention is also being drawn to the likelihood of strong winds impacting the far northwest of the UK. In London, temperatures might reach around 22°C, but another cool night is anticipated in the south.
