Overview of HM Land Registry Activity in August
In August, HM Land Registry processed a total of 1,823,949 applications, reflecting a decrease from the previous month when 2,134,898 applications were completed in July 2026. This figure also shows a slight increase from 1,748,118 applications in August 2025. It is important to note that these numbers represent the applications processed and do not necessarily indicate the overall market activity.
The nature of the applications varied, with 348,570 submitted for register updates, down from 402,753 in July. Additionally, the registry received 989,677 requests for official copies of the register, compared to 1,167,651 the previous month. Other categories included 194,740 search and hold queries, 98,471 transactions for value, and 18,804 postal applications from non-account holders, all of which showed a decline from July figures.
Regional Breakdown of Applications
The South East emerged as the leading region for applications, recording 414,202 submissions in August. This was a significant drop from 481,280 in July. Greater London followed, with 326,252 applications, down from 381,481. The North West and South West regions also saw declines, with applications falling to 206,723 and 180,436, respectively.
Other regions reported similar trends, with the West Midlands registering 156,546 applications, Yorkshire and the Humber at 150,050, and the East Midlands with 137,737. The North and East Anglia recorded 89,750 and 79,397 applications, respectively, while Wales saw 82,663 applications. The Isles of Scilly had a minor increase, with 60 applications in August.
Leading Local Authority Areas and Customers
Among local authority areas, Birmingham topped the list with 28,024 applications in August, followed closely by North Yorkshire with 22,560. The City of Westminster recorded 22,401 applications, while Leeds and Cornwall had 20,778 and 19,085 applications, respectively.
The top customers for August included InfoTrack Limited, which processed 205,569 applications. Following them were Enact with 35,587 applications, Orbital Witness Limited with 34,886, O’Neill Patient at 32,992, and Landmark Information Group Ltd with 27,800 applications.
