Digital Veteran Card Offers Enhanced Benefits for Veterans
As the nation prepares to commemorate the sacrifices made by service members this Remembrance Sunday, veterans are being invited to explore the advantages of the digital Veteran Card. Since its introduction in October 2025, over 23,000 digital cards have been downloaded, providing veterans with a modern and accessible means to verify their service directly from their mobile devices.
This innovative digital card not only facilitates access to various discounts at participating retailers, restaurants, and attractions but also serves as a vital identification tool when registering with healthcare services and obtaining relevant support. The convenience of having proof of service readily available on a smartphone makes it an appealing option for many veterans.
Government Officials Highlight Importance of Recognition
Stephanie Peacock, Minister for Digital Government, emphasised the significance of remembering the contributions of the Armed Forces community. She stated, “Remembrance Sunday is when our whole country comes together to honour the courage, service, and sacrifice of our Armed Forces community. We must never forget those who have served our country, or the debt of gratitude we owe them.”
Peacock continued, “Our veterans deserve recognition not just on Remembrance Sunday, but throughout the year. The digital Veteran Card is a practical way to do that, making it easier for veterans to prove their service, keep their card close at hand, and access discounts at participating shops, restaurants, and attractions.”
With the increasing number of downloads, she expressed a desire for more veterans to become aware of the benefits the digital card offers, enabling them to carry proof of their service wherever they go.
Encouraging Participation Among Veterans
Veterans Minister Calvin Bailey MP, a former Royal Air Force member who holds a digital Veteran Card, expressed his commitment to enhancing access to support for veterans. He remarked, “We’re determined to make it easier for veterans to access the support and entitlements they deserve. The digital Veteran Card makes it easy to get specialised health services or claim discounts on everyday shopping.”
Bailey encouraged fellow veterans to obtain their Veteran Card, whether physical or digital, particularly during this period of remembrance.
Applying for the Digital Veteran Card Made Simple
To obtain a digital Veteran Card, veterans must first apply for a physical card. Once their application has been fully processed and their card dispatched, they can then apply for and download the digital version via the GOV.UK One Login app. It’s important to note that while the digital card is optional, veterans can continue to use their physical card if that is their preference. The availability of discounts may vary by organisation, so it is advisable for veterans to verify offers before making a visit.
Julie Kotecha, a British Army veteran, shared her experience: “I always ask when I’m out shopping or using services whether there’s a discount for veterans. I’ve found my Veteran Card useful, and people are often impressed by it – it can be a good conversation starter, too.” She expressed enthusiasm about the convenience of the digital version, stating that it would be easier to access on her phone rather than carrying multiple cards. Kotecha encouraged other veterans to obtain their cards, inquire about discounts, and take full advantage of the benefits available to them, praising the helpful staff at the Veterans UK office.
Additional Information and Insights
Launched in October 2025, the digital Veteran Card has gained significant traction, with over 23,000 downloads to date. The digital version is designed to complement the physical card, which veterans must apply for prior to accessing the digital option. As discounts and acceptance policies can differ among organisations, veterans are advised to check the terms of use before visiting establishments.
Andy, from the Tower of London, illustrated how the Digital Veteran Card simplifies the process of accessing support and savings available to veterans in recognition of their military service, reinforcing the card’s importance in fostering a supportive community for those who have served.
