Acknowledging Commitment to Officer Wellbeing
The commitment of CNC to establish a proactive, evidence-based approach in supporting its officers and staff has been acknowledged with a prestigious national policing award. The force secured the Occupational Health accolade at the esteemed 2026 Oscar Kilo Awards, which celebrate exceptional contributions within policing aimed at enhancing the welfare and wellbeing of personnel.
The CNC’s application showcased its significant strides in becoming the second police force in the country to obtain Safe Effective Quality Occupational Health Service accreditation. This achievement reflects the organisation’s dedication to maintaining high standards in occupational health services. Furthermore, the development of a tailored Health Needs Assessment (HNA) programme is a cornerstone of their strategy.
Innovative Health Needs Assessment Programme
The HNA programme empowers members of the Occupational Health Safety and Wellbeing (OHWS) team to collaborate with colleagues across various divisions within the organisation. This interdisciplinary approach aids in gaining a comprehensive understanding of the diverse health and wellbeing requirements of employees stationed at different sites. By harnessing this evidence, CNC is able to formulate targeted action plans that address the specific needs of its workforce.
Leadership’s Vision for Continuous Improvement
Emma Aldred, Head of Occupational Health Safety and Wellbeing, expressed her pride in receiving the award, stating, “We’re incredibly proud to have won this award. It is fantastic recognition for CNC and the work the team put in to continually developing the support we provide to our officers and staff.” Her sentiments underline the ongoing dedication to fostering a supportive environment for all personnel.
Aldred further highlighted the organisation’s commitment to continual improvement, saying, “We’re always looking at what more we can do, and this award gives us further encouragement to keep listening to our workforce, developing our services and responding to their needs.” This proactive stance reflects a deep understanding of the importance of employee wellbeing and the role it plays in the overall efficiency of law enforcement operations.
