The Importance of Youth Participation

As we approach 2027, we are keen to hear from the youth of Türkiye regarding their aspirations for the future and the transformative changes they envision for our world.
This competition provides a valuable opportunity for the winner to gain insight into the operations of the British Consulate General in Istanbul, culminating in an exclusive experience shadowing the Consul General for a day.
Eligibility Criteria
Participation in this competition is open to those who meet the following requirements:
- Must reside in Türkiye.
- Must be aged between 18 and 24 years at the time of application.
How to Submit Your Entry
To enter the competition, please follow these steps:
1. Respond to the question:
“As we look ahead to 2027, what is one change you would like to see in the world, and how do you think it could make a difference?”
2. Provide your answer in one of the following formats:
– An essay of no more than 250 words, written in English or Turkish.
– A video of up to 2 minutes in duration, recorded in English or Turkish. For video submissions, please upload your video to YouTube, set its visibility to Unlisted, and include the link in your application email.
3. Ensure your application email contains the following information:
– Full name
– Date of birth
– Email address
– Telephone number

5. The deadline for submissions is 22 November 2026.
What Awaits the Winner
The fortunate winner will have the chance to accompany the British Consul General in Istanbul for an entire day, engaging in a series of scheduled events.
Conditions of Participation
Photography and Publication Consent
The winner must consent to being photographed and/or filmed during the Consul General for a Day programme and associated public events. Any images or video footage may be shared on the official social media platforms of the British Consulate General Istanbul, including Instagram, and may be used in promotional materials, ensuring that the dignity and reputation of the winner are upheld.
Eligibility and Availability
Participants must be able to attend the Consul General for a Day programme in Istanbul on the date specified by the Consulate. Valid identification is required on the day of the event. Previous winners of this competition, close relatives of British Consulate General Istanbul employees, and individuals associated with the judging process are ineligible to participate.
Travel and Expenses
The winner is responsible for all expenses incurred while attending the Consul General for a Day programme in Istanbul, which includes travel, local transport, and accommodation. The British Consulate General Istanbul will not provide reimbursement for any associated costs.
Submission and Selection Guidelines
Only one entry per individual is allowed; multiple submissions will lead to disqualification. Entries received after the deadline will not be considered. All essays and videos must be original, unpublished, and not submitted for other initiatives prior to the announcement of this competition.
Judging and Notification Process
Entries will be assessed anonymously by a panel that includes staff from the British Consulate General Istanbul. The winner will be informed via email within two weeks following the competition’s closing date. If the winner cannot be reached within four working days of notification, the consulate reserves the right to withdraw the prize and select another winner from the remaining entries.
Final Considerations
The British Consulate General Istanbul accepts no responsibility for entries that are not received for any reason. The decision of the Consulate regarding all aspects of the competition, including entry evaluation and prize awarding, is final. Any necessary changes to the event dates or arrangements will be communicated to participants. By entering the competition, participants agree to abide by these terms and conditions.
