Thousands of Young People Embrace Agricultural Careers at Thriving Jobs Fair

Norfolk’s Youth Guarantee Jobs Fair Attracts Over 1,000 Young Attendees

More than 1,000 young individuals participated in Norfolk’s inaugural Youth Guarantee Jobs Fair, where they had the chance to explore various trades through practical simulations in welding and farming. This event successfully united 65 employers and partners, primarily aimed at providing opportunities for youth from rural and countryside backgrounds. The jobs fair is part of a broader government initiative focused on youth employment, supported by a substantial £2.5 billion investment designed to assist young people in carving out robust career pathways.

Hands-On Experience and Skills Development

At AgriFest, attendees engaged with a variety of agricultural professions through immersive experiences, including virtual reality welding, heavy goods vehicle (HGV) training, and a hands-on exercise in constructing water irrigation networks. Additionally, an ‘employability zone’ was established to offer guidance on job hunting, application completion, and interview preparation, equipping participants with the confidence and skills necessary to embark on their employment journeys.

Government’s Commitment to Youth Employment

Pat McFadden, the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, highlighted the government’s dedication to empowering young individuals to reach their full potential. He expressed his delight at seeing local businesses and partners creating opportunities for hundreds of young people, not only through interviews but also by offering mentorship and career advice. McFadden emphasised the government’s resolve through the Youth Guarantee to provide every young person with a chance to either earn or learn.
